Colorado Animal Law is a small, agile, responsive firm
offering the highest quality of legal services with integrity and
passion. The firm serves clients throughout Colorado in a variety of animal-related legal contexts.
The firm was founded in 2013 by attorney Kate Burke. Kate has been in private practice for several years, with successful experience in civil litigation, contract development and enforcement and nonprofit or small business advising. Kate graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law as a member of the Order of the Coif. There, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the University of Colorado Law Review and, afterwards, as law clerk to Justice Gregory Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court. Kate founded Colorado Animal Law to devote herself to the passion for animal law she developed during law school, built on a lifelong love of and fascination with animals and people's relationships with them.
Kate is a founding member and co-chair of the Colorado Bar Association Special Committee on Animal Law and the coordinating editor for animal law articles for The Colorado Lawyer magazine. She also sits on the La Plata County Living with Wildlife Board and is active in the Southwestern Colorado Bar Association. Kate has published numerous professional articles on the subject of animal law and is a speaker at various events.
